Web Hosting
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides and maintains central web hosting services for the University through the Network Infrastructure and Control Systems (NICS) group and Systems group. The Webmaster's Office helps coordinate requests for web hosting and services between NICS, Systems, and officially recognized departments and organizations.
In addition to web hosting services, web scripting (Perl, PHP, ASP, .NET, ColdFusion) and database (MySQL, MSSQL) services are available under certain circumstances. These environments must adhere to our web security standards and procedures. ITS provides both Linux Apache and Windows IIS web server environments.
How do I get a site?
Contact the Webmaster's Office for a consultation on the web services ITS can provide for you or your department or organization. We will discuss your options and offer alternatives if we are unable to accomodate your needs.
Student clubs and organizations must make web hosting and service requests through the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership. The Webmaster's Office can not directly assist these groups. In addition, these web sites must adhere to the standards and procedures as outlined in the university Club Web Site Policy.
I just want a personal web page...
Appalachian provides its faculty, staff and students web hosting for personal web sites. By default, all users have web accounts on a VMS cluster - see our VMS setup instructions for more information on setting up your web space on this system.
Faculty or staff requiring a scripting environment or an Apache/Linux environment can request an account on PM. Please see our instructions on PM web services and setup to determine if this is the right server for you.
